A unique career opportunity for a Physician Assistant.
West Palm Beach Florida
We are looking for a third, full time PA, to join our two-physician practice team specializing in adult and pediatric orthopedic deformity correction, limb lengthening, and orthopedic oncology. Dr. Dror Paley is a world-recognized deformity correction specialist, and came to West Palm Beach, Florida from Baltimore, Maryland, three years ago, to grow a institution which has become a magnet throughout the international and national community. Approximately 40% of our patients are from throughout the state of Florida, 40% come from the rest of the United States and 20% of our patients are international. In addition, Dr. Daniel Prince, an orthopedic oncologist, who came from Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City, and trained under Dr. Paley, brings advanced tumor care to an area lacking this specialty.
This is NOT your usual orthopedic practice. If you desire to see rare deformities, both congenital and acquired, and be a part of the multi-modal treatment team at a nationally and international renowned center, then inquire here! You will see and treat syndromic conditions that rarely exist outside of this practice. In addition, we see the full spectrum of orthopaedic conditions, though we focus on the more complex and interesting. The satisfaction of making a real and meaningful improvement in the lives of our patients and their families is immensely rewarding. You will see children grow into a life they never have experienced, or expected, and adults learn that options actually do exist to correct issues that other practices have deemed untreatable.
Corrections of these congenital and acquired deformities are done utilizing a combination of internal fixation, but to a larger extent, external fixation, with computer-dependent correction devices. Large, open surgeries are also performed, such as Judet Quadriceplasties, Ganz pelvic and triple peri-acetabular osteotomies, femoral head reduction osteotomies, multiple nerve decompressions in both the arms and legs, and the “Super hip, knee, and ankle” surgeries, which have been pioneered to treat the multiple deformities listed below. Dr. Prince also performs tumor resection(s) with endoprosthetic reconstructions.
We constantly develop new strategies to treat these diseases…
For reference, some of these diseases are:
• Congenital Femoral deficiency
• Fibular Hemimelia
• Tibial Hemimelia
• Congenital Pseudoarthrosis of the Tibia
• Achondroplasia
• Upper extremity anomalies such as radial club hand, T.A.R. syndrome, phocomelia
• Blounts’ Diesase
• Perthes’ Disease
• Congenital Ptergyium syndrome
• Developmental and acquired hip dysplasia, adult and pediatric
• Avascular necrosis of the femoral head
• Osteo/Ewings/Lipo Sarcomas
• Metastatic tumors
St. Mary’s Hospital in West Palm Beach has a level 2 trauma center (we do NOT see trauma, nor take call for trauma), a dedicated Pediatric ICU, a hospitalist-based pediatric team, pediatric and adult oncology service, an advanced hyperbaric oxygen treatment team, and a dedicated wound care department. Our practice has two full time orthopedic techs solely responsible for external fixator care and teaching, as well all casting, including within the O.R. at case completion. In addition, we have a dedicated practice-trained advanced nurse practitioner whose primary responsibility is inpatient rounds and facilitation of pre and post-operative care.
You will join two full time, and three part time PAs. All have been with Dr. Paley and Dr. Prince since the summer of 2009. Although the overall field of orthopaedic oncology, and deformity correction and lengthening of limbs is relatively small, training and education in this arena is readily provided by the team, and the practice believes in aggressively training the PAs. This also includes off-site, focused training. PA’s work alongside both physicians in a first-assist role, assisting in all modalities including multi-layered closures, frame applications, and, when trained, supervised removal of both internal and external fixation. Clinic roles are also included, managing a free flowing out patient population.
This role will enrich all aspects of your training and experience, including the surgical, technical, and medical facets involved with treating this unique patient population.
Benefits outside of a competitive salary, a generous PTO package, $5000 of CME, and a structured, quarterly performance bonus (after tenure) includes the opportunity for international travel for both CME and first-assist roles. The PA’s here have literally been world-wide, including mission trips to Haiti.
Whom is our ideal applicant? Of course, we would entertain any applicant with prior surgical sub-specialty experience, in any field. Current new graduates would be considered. Ortho experience is a bonus, but here, it is not required in any way. What we do desire, however, is a high energy, driven, committed PA who recognizes the opportunity to advance as a Physician Assistant in ways not offered at any other surgical practice.
