Partnership between the Mountain Sage Medical Clinic and the Pacific University School of Physician Assistant Studies
The Mountain Sage Medical Clinic and Pacific University are currently seeking applicants for a full-time Physician Assistant to practice clinically with Tom Fitzpatrick MD and serve as clinical faculty for Pacific University in Burns, Oregon. The role of the Mountain Sage Medical Clinical Co-faculty is to practice as a full-time physician assistant at Mountain Sage Medical, Hines-Burns VA Clinic, and Harney County Hospital and at four (4) off-site remote medical clinics as designated by supervising physician, Tom Fitzpatrick MD.
As clinical faculty for Pacific University, the physician assistant will coordinate and supervise the clinical activities of the School of Physician Assistant Studies within Mountain Sage Medical, provide instruction in the didactic and clinical phases of the curriculum through distance delivery, and represent the School to the Harney county medical community.
The successful candidate will be a certified Physician Assistant with rural practice experience, a commitment to personalized patient care, excellent administrative and communication skills, computer literacy, a minimum of three years of clinical experience, a Master’s degree, and teaching experience preferred. This 12 month position reports to Tom Fitzpatrick MD and has a clinical faculty rank at Pacific University based on previous teaching experience. This position is partially funded by federal funds from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
Burns, Oregon is located in the northwestern tip of the Great Basin in the largest county in Oregon. The beautiful Steens Mountains are 60 miles SE of Burns and are part of our rural outreach program. The Blue Mountains are immediately north of town, while the High Desert is East and West. Outdoor opportunities are abundant--fishing, hunting, hiking, cross country skiing, biking, horseback riding etc. The nearest world class downhill skiing is 2 hours away in Bend Oregon. The Department Chair of the Physician Assistant Program (Chair) must be both a leader with vision and a manager, capable of and committed to articulating and implementing the mission of the University of Saint Mary (USM) and the PA Program. The new Chair will be responsible for marshalling the energies of the entire program to achieve its stated goals and objectives. This position represents a unique opportunity for a dynamic professional to develop the curriculum and accrediting materials for the new Program, and be responsible for leadership within the program, its faculty and students. Reporting to the VP of Academic Affairs and a member of the Academic Leadership Council, the Chair is responsible for all aspects of the Physician Assistants Program including personnel oversight, the preparation of the program budget, the acquisition of external funds to enhance the mission of the program, managing all aspects of the accreditation process, and the continual monitoring and assessment of the program.
The Chair must be a master level NCCPA-certified PA (doctorate preferred), have eligibility for Kansas licensure, at least 3-5 years experience as a PA at a clinical site, and administration experience in an educational setting, particularly medical or PA education.
Previous PA program development and ARC-PA accreditation experience is highly desirable. The applicant should have: strong interpersonal skills, demonstrated excellence in clinical practice, demonstrated leadership and management experience, and some teaching experience. The applicant should be knowledgeable about PA programs (fiscal management, planning, development) as well as the accreditation process for PA programs. Applicants with evidence of prior creativity and experience working within an established PA program will receive priority. This is a twelve-month, tenure track appointment. Salary and rank are commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Full-time Physician Assistant needed for extremely busy and fast paced Orthopaedic Hand Surgeon. The time will be split between the OR and the Clinic. Responsibilities include: Independent clinics, H&P’s, patient evaluation and treatment, first assist during surgical procedures, injections, hospital rounds, providing patient evaluation education and community speaking engagements. Light call coverage also required. Successful candidate should be NCCPA-certified/eligible, highly motivated and hard working. Previous orthopaedic/surgical experience a plus but willing to train.
The location is in the Quad Cities. The area is located on the Mississippi, is less than 3 hours from Chicago and offers great quality of life, very low cost of living and excellent schools.
