 Surgical PA in a cutting edge cardio thoracic surgery US-NY-upstate New York Base Pay: $56,000.00 - $100,000.00 /Year Advanced Practice Solutions, PA a national leader in nurse practitioner and physician assistant staffing and recruitment has a new opportunity for a surgical PA in a cutting edge cardio thoracic surgery program at an expanding institution. Responsibilities include assisting with surgical procedures in the OR 2-3 scheduled days per week. Prefer experience with laparoscopic/thoracoscopic procedures. If no experience with minimally invasive procedures, willing to train. Previous work with open thoracic or general surgery procedures a plus. Initiate appropriate treatment modalities in prescribing medications, assistive devices (IV's, insertion of chest tubes, Swan catheters), extubation of patients. Initiate and/or perform selected procedures and laboratory examinations for diagnostic screening and referral purposes. See and dictate consults in ER and hospital, assist NPs with management of inpatients, assist with discharging patients. Function as a consultant to nursing staff within ICU and CT unit, and assist junior house officers. Perform H & P's for new admission while residents are dismissed, sick days, vacations and while in educational conferences. Possible scheduled call from home in case assistance needed for add-on or emergency surgery cases (rare occurrence) on nights and weekends. Receiving "sign out" and pre-rounding on inpatients at 6 a.m. when resident coverage not available. Rounding with thoracic surgery team at 7 a.m., seeing patients in clinic and dictating notes, helping with small clinic procedures, teaching basic surgical skills to rotating residents on service.
